Today we face major policy challenges, which cannot be solved without scientific evidence. Science and policy are different worlds, but they must collaborate closely in order to address wicked problems of our age. The Joint Research Centre (JRC) is the European Commission’s science and knowledge service, with a mission to bring science and knowledge into EU policymaking. Over the past years, it has embraced new types of knowledge and practices in order to increase the impact of research on European policies. The Science for Policy Handbook presents the lessons learnt along the way, applicable not just in the EU context. The book puts together advice on new skills and practices for individual researchers, but also discusses elements of institutional change – knowledge areas and processes in which to invest. It puts co-creation at the centre of Science for Policy 2.0, a more integrated model of knowledge-policy relationship.
